Improvements: SC 41 was paved from Lake View to NC upon designation in 1937.
SC 41 was paved on all segments in 1948.
SC 41 was multilaned from Hemingway to Johnsonville by 1974. No other multilane segments shown on official maps.
Comment: SC 41 provides a pretty direct alternative from I-95 Lumberton, NC to Charleston, SC, but passes through many miles of emptiness and no services.
SC 41 passes through the heart of the Francis Marion National Forest.
SC 41 southbound technically never does enter Georgetown County, as the county line is in the center of the road.

1937 ROUTE LOG
US 301: 0 - 0
END SC 41: 1.3 - 1.3
SC 41 #1: An original state highway running from SC 2 (now US 78) near Goose Creek north through Moncks Corner, Kingstree, Lake City, Florence, and Darlington before ending at SC 50 (now S-13-148) near Cheraw.
About 1925, SC 41 was put on new routing from Kingstree to St Stephen using mostly new construction. From Pineville to St Stephen this replaced the original SC 45 corridor which used nearby Brewington Rd, Karakul Ln, S-8-186 Imperial Dr, and S-8-64 Roosevelt Dr. The old route via Lane and Gourdin became SC 412 and an extended SC 44 (now SC 377) and abandoned roadway through the swamp across Santee River to likely S-8-27 Main St in St Stephen.
In 1927, US 17 was added to SC 41 from Goose Creek to Florence and US 601 from Florence to Cheraw.
In 1928, SC 41 was dropped from US 17 and US 601. SC 41 is approximated today via US 52 from US 78 to Cheraw except: S-8-791 Strwaberry to Moncks Corner; "Old US 52" south of US 521; abandoned roadway through Dickie Swamp; abandoned causeway and Dutch Neck Rd approaching Kingstree; SC 261 and S-45-8 Academy-Kelly-3rd St through Kingstree; Evans St/Coit St in Florence; US 52 Business through Darlington; S-13-494 Juniper Rd east of the US 1-52 jct.
