Creation:  I-440 was requested by Tennessee in July 1958 to run from I-40 west of central Nashville to I-24/40 east of central Nashville, bypassing downtown around the south side. This had been designated B40 as a placeholder in earlier documents. AASHO approved this in August 1958.
Adjustments:  Per Wikipedia, which references newspaper articles, the first segment of I-440 to open was in 1985, from I-65 to I-24/40.
In 1987, I-440 was open from I-65 west to I-40.
Improvements: Upon designation, I-440 was 4-laned with auxillary lanes between all interchanges from I-65 west to I-40, It was 6-laned from I-65 to I-24/40.
In 2020, I-440 was 6-laned from I-65 west to I-40.
New Exits Added: None
Comments:  The bypass of central Nashville. I-440 took forever to build due to widespread opposition to plowing through numerous neighborhoods.
