Creation: The following information comes from a very nice booklet released by TDOT in November 2012 commemorating the completion of TN 840. A Nashville Beltway was first proposed in the mid 1970s and was referred to by TDOT as I-840 as early as 1986, but when actual freeway opened starting in 1995 it was signed as TN 840.
| Adjustments: I-840 returned when it replaced TN 840 in 2015 (full loop was opened in 2012). Posting: Fully posted Comments: A very long southern bypass of Nashville. This was supposed to be a beltway and there was an EIS completed on the northern loop in 1995, but per a very nice booklet released by TDOT in November 2012 commemorating the completion of TN 840, the northern loop was put on indefinite hold in 2003.
